Lexington Park resident Sidney Joseph Spry, 27, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 14 following an investigation into a shooting in the 4600 block of Expedition Drive, officials said.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning, deputies from the sheriff’s office responded to the Lexington Park business park when there were reports of shots fired into a building.

Upon arrival, deputies said that they located multiple shell casings and there was damage to the building and windows caused by a gun, according to a spokesperson from the sheriff’s office.

Witnesses at the scene told investigators that a white man - later identified as Spry - fired several shots into an occupied office building from a vehicle and fled the area, forcing nearby businesses and schools to enter their lockdown protocols.

The suspect vehicle was tracked down within minutes at an unoccupied apartment building in Lexington Park, according to the sheriff’s office, and a perimeter was established while members of the sheriff’s office Hostage Negotiations Team and Emergency Services Team took Spry into custody without incident.

Officials said that the preliminary investigation found that the incident was “an occurrence of workplace violence by a recently terminated employee.”

Spry was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown where he was charged with:

  • Twenty counts of reckless endangerment;
  • Firearm use in a felony violent crime;
  • First-degree assault;
  • Possession of a loaded handgun on a person;
  • Loaded handgun in a vehicle.
